Vision and Dental Benefits Available

Coming very soon, the Defense Health Agency’s TRICARE Retiree Dental Program (TRDP) will end on December 31, 2018. By order of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a new program will take its place. For those currently enrolled in or eligible for TRDP will have the opportunity to enroll in the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP). Enrollment open season for the new program is from November 12, 2018 to December 10, 2018.
FEDVIP is a voluntary, enrollee-pay-all dental and vision program that offers eligible participants a choice between 10 dental and four vision carriers, with most plans offering both high and standard options. In general, retired uniformed service members and their families who were eligible for the TRDP in 2018 are eligible for FEDVIP dental coverage and, if enrolled in a TRICARE health plan, are also eligible for FEDVIP vision coverage beginning in 2019. In addition, family members of active duty, uniformed service members who are enrolled in a TRICARE health plan are eligible for FEDVIP vision coverage.
The Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP) is a voluntary program designed to provide supplemental dental and vision benefits, which are available on an enrollee-pay-all basis (no government contribution toward premiums) to Federal Civilian and U.S. Postal Service employees, retirees, and their family members.
The FEDVIP allows dental and vision insurance to be purchased on a group basis, which means competitive premiums and no pre-existing condition limitations.

Free Hearing Aids

Did you know veterans who are enrolled in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care system may be eligible to receive free hearing aids, glasses or contact lenses? These “sensorineural aids” are provided at no charge to veterans who are determined to need the devices, even if the veteran is not “service-connected” for hearing or vision impairment.
Such services are considered part of the preventative care package for all veterans enrolled in VA health care system who meet certain eligibility criteria.
For some veterans, there may be a $50 co-pay depending on the veteran’s enrollment priority group status. There is no co-pay for the devices or the batteries, nor are there any charges for visits for the purpose of adjusting, repairing or modifying hearing aids and/or glasses.
