A1: You are not alone, in fact, the majority of 214s for veterans that served in Vietnam do not have "Vietnam" service dates listed. Your 201 file lists all your assignments and qualifications. When you file your VA claim for compensation, one of the first things VA does is to request your 201 file and STRs. If your Vietnam service is not listed in your 201 file, then get your buddies to complete a VA Form 21-10210, Lay Statement, to attest to your service. (DS) 7/22/22
A2: Welcome home submit, if you have not for a DD215 upgrade from DD214 via an SF180. This will show any changes or additions rom 214. Also contact the DAV to work your claim. Good luck. D company 3/8th4th infantry October 68-October 69. (MB) 7/22/22
A3: Is the mailing zip code on you DD Form 214, for that organization you were assigned to. VA will use that for proof of Vietnam Service you can do a SF180 and get a copy of your military records which should also have the zip code for that organization. You could google the organization and get the location of the unit. (GR) 7/22/22
A4: I've seen veterans go to their unit reunions and get statements from old service buddies. Give that a try. (CR) 7/22/22
A5: Generally speaking, the information on your DD214 is not "incorrect" and does not indicate an "error or injustice in the record".
While having the DD214 reflect specific service in Vietnam might be useful, it is not necessary to successfully prove that you were there. Your military record should indicate service locations for those combined 12 months. Please never let a supposed lack of records stop you from filing a compensation claim with the VA. Contact a VSO near you to find out what your service record shows. A search of the VA.gov website will allow you to find a local accredited VSO.
Do NOT pay for benefits filing assistance as it is a free service per federal mandate. Good luck to you and Thank You for Your Service! (LK) 7/26/22
