Q855:  I served in the Army and Nam in 1966.  I received an honorable discharge from the Army in 1968.  After my time in the Army I was done with the military and wanted nothing to do with the Army or VA.  Fast forward to 2022 and I need medical care.  I am independently wealthy and was told I might make too much money to get health care from the VA.  What is the salary threshold for VA healthcare eligibility?

A1:  All vietnam vets are eligible without a means tests.  (PM)  4/15/22

A2:  If you served in Vietnam, the VA medical system has to enroll you despite your current income level. There are several instances in which VAMC has to enroll veterans despite their level of income. Shy of that, you have to have a service connected rating of 10% or more to be enrolled or on the wartime pension. The means test thresholds are different based on your location and the number of dependents you have. The means test is based on gross "household" income.  (DS)  4/17/22
