Q804: I suffer a service-connected profound hearing loss disability which prevents me from working. I filed for unemployability benefits and received notice that I would receive an additional 10% in disability payments, but that unemployability would be deferred. What does "deferred" mean? Either you get it or you don't. Could someone explain "deferred"?
If you have a question about benefits, compensation, pension or VA related issues please submit here.

A1: "Deferred" means that the VA does not have enough evidence to make a rating decision (RD) on that contention. What they did was issue a RD so that you can receive some benefit while adjudicating the deferred contention. The VA may ask for more evidence or schedule you a C&P exam. At any rate, if the VA needs anything, they will send you a letter. When they do, get the requested information back to them as soon as you can. The quickest way is to work with an accredited VSO. We can directly upload evidence into the VA's VBMS system instead of via snail mail. (DS) 12/15/21
A2: This simply means the VA is looking for additional evidence. (RJ) 12/15/21
A3: You better be careful becasue the VA could defer your claim to the "hurry up and wait" pile. (HV) 12/15/21
A4: Deferred means that the VA is going to do more development or research on the claim to get more information and they might ask for another examination to further develop to get the information needed to rate for IU. (GR) 12/29/21
