Q777: How much compensation does a spouse receive after the death of a veteran? If he was 100% disabled and died from his service-connected disability?

A1: Your monthly payment rate is: $1,357.56 for Dependency Indemnity Compensation (DIC). Your amount could be higher based on different factors. If the veteran was 100 for 10 years prior to their death and you were married to the vet for at least the last 8 years, then you will get the "kicker" of $288.27. If you are considered Homebound, meaning you can't leave your home unassisted, then the VA adds $157.55. If you need help with the basic activities of daily living (eating, bathing, dressing, etc) then the VA adds $336.32. These rates were effective 12/01/20 and may change at the end of the year. A2: She will keep CHAMPVA and will get a part of your monthly compensation for life or she remarries. (ML) 10/5/21
A3: My husband was 100% disabled and I don't get 1/2 of his pension, less than a quarter and he left me with a large Mortgage which I have to pay and the VA is not helping at all. (MK) 2/6/22
