Q771:  I served in Vietnam and have a ton of service-connected disabilities.  I am rated at 50% for all of my disabilities.  I have been out of work since 2005, and I have been trying to get to 100% since 2016.  I finally received paperwork from the VA yesterday that asked me to fill out a Dependent Verification Form.  Is this a hint I have been approved for 100%?

A1:  Anytime that a veteran may meet the schedular requirements for IU (one disability rated at 60% or, if multiple disabilities, overall 70% with at least one of those being 40%) then the VA notifies the veteran they may be eligible for IU. You will then have to complete a VA Form 21-8940 and submit to the VA. When the VA receives the 8940, they will schedule you for C&P exams for any disabilities you listed as preventing you from obtaining or maintaining gainful employment. When you do this, remember, the VA can increase your rating, leave you where you are or, reduce your rating based on the results of the C&P exams.  (DS)  9/10/21

A2:  No, this does not indicate 100%. When a veteran is rated 30% or better they can claim their dependents on their claim.   Anyone claiming dependents will receive a dependent verification letter on occasion.  (RJ)  9/10/21
