Q761:  Navy veteran 1967-1971.  Went to local VA hospital to check on getting hearing aids and glasses help and VSO told me I didn’t qualify because I didn’t sign up before a certain date.  I have never asked for anything before and am quite upset about his answer. Why do I not deserve benefits?

A1:   I'm not sure who told you that, but, if what you said was said, it is incorrect. Because you served does not mean you will be enrolled. There are requirements to be met before you will be enrolled. Complete a VA Form 10-10ez and submit to your local VA Medical Center's Eligibility section, who will make the determination. When you apply for VA health care, you?ll be assigned 1 of 8 priority groups. This system helps to make sure that Veterans who need immediate care can get signed up quickly. Priority group 1 is the highest where Priority group 8 puts you on a waiting list.  (DS)  8/13/21
