Q760:  My veteran husband passed away in 2018, 100% SC, in San Antonio's VAMC. I opted to have his body cremated because I knew little about Veteran Burial places. I know I was given allowance to pay for burial/cremation fee, but I would gladly repay amount if I can get my late husband's ashes buried in Arlington Cemetery.  Any information about how to make that happen would be greatly appreciated.

A1:  Burial in Arlington National Cemetery has the most stringent requirements of all the VA cemeteries. If the veteran wishes to have their ashes interred at Arlington, then, most veterans who have at least one day of active service (other than for training) and an honorable discharge are eligible for above-ground inurnment. The primary next of kin (PNOK) or person authorized to direct disposition (PADD). The PNOK, PADD or the funeral director should telephone Arlington National Cemetery's customer service center at 1-877-907-8585 to arrange for the interment/inurnment service.  (DS)  8/13/21
