Q724:  I am fed up with life in America so I have decided to move my family to China.  Four other veterans I know are ready to move to China too.  I have family and friends that live there and they love it.  My wife already has a tech job lined up.  Question.  I am 100% service-connected, does anyone know if my VA benefits are transferable to China?  Nobody in the VA seems to know anything about it getting healthcare or my disability check in China.

If you have a question about benefits, compensation, pension or VA related issues please submit here

A1:  Dear fellow veteran. As a fellow 100% disabled vet. My answer that I found is... You'll end up getting nothing. So you have 2 options:. 1 do it anyway! You'll have no healthcare, no benefits, 2. only time you can get those things are from the yearly or so trip you'll need to make to your primary care doctor in your home state.  (RS)  6/6/21

A2:  When you say China do you mean China or Hong Kong? If you mean China the first thing you need to do is put a claim in for brain damage. China kills it own people what do you think they will do for you. China is not a free country.  (GD)  6/6/21

A3:  As RS noted, if there are no VA Medical Centers in China, you cannot utilize VA medical care benefits. I don't know of VA or Social Security payments can be paid to overseas addresses. Given the current state of relations between the US and China, I would think long and hard before I moved there.  (DJ)  6/6/21

A4:  You should be able to get your VA benefits in China. You should also be eligible for healthcare under the Foreign Medical Program. This is a quote from the VA: "If you're a Veteran who lives overseas, you remain entitled to the benefits and services you earned through your military service. Most VA benefits are payable regardless of your place of residence or nationality. VA benefits include disability compensation, pension, education and training, health care, home loans, insurance, vocational rehabilitation and employment and burial."  (DS)  6/7/21

A5:  Nope, if you want to live there you loose it all monthly check and healthcare. VA won't answer because they figure if you want to live there you'll be happy with what the Communist government will give ya. $0.00 See ya Comrade.  (ML)  6/7/21
