Q709:  Years ago Lowe’s & Home Deport let me have a discount on most items in their stores.  Now I only get discounts a certain products and most I am not interested in buying.  Has Lowe’s and Home Depot cut back on the discounts they used to offer veterans?

A1:  I shop at Lowes in PA and FL and both stores give a 10% discount to Vets. Sign up for a MyLowes card and tell them you're a Vet . Take a copy of your DD214.  (JK)  5/11/21

A2:  No idea about Home Depot. But, Lowe's, I've gotten the 10% on everything even appliances that were on sale (which was only purchase the associate wasn't sure about until the purchase was paid for).  (DH)  5/11/21

A3:   I know that when I went into a Home Depot and Lowes, in the past few months, they will check my ID card at the register and I still get on discount. I don't buy a lot, so I don't know if it's just on certain things or not, but I do get a discount at both stores.  (BH)  5/11/21

A4:  If they have stopped their practice, I highly think the Military should consider Ace Hardware. Simple solution!!. Hit them right where it hurts.  (MB)  5/11/21

A5:  Lowes' has a military 10% discount program. You have to be currently serving in, or a veteran of the US armed forces or be the immediate family member. You have to also enroll online and your eligibility will be verified by and independent third party. You may have to provide additional documentation. Home Depot Military discount offers all active-duty military personnel, as well as veterans, a 10% discount on select national holidays, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veteran's Day. Additionally, the 10% discount is also available to active and reserve duty military personnel on an every-day basis. Retired or disabled veterans are also eligible, as well as their spouses and dependent children. You cannot receive the 10% discount on online purchases. When you do get the 10% discount at Home Depot, it is only good up to a $500 purchase, so a $50 discount max.  (DS)  5/11/21

A6:  I just purchased a Weber grill at Lowe's and received the military 10% discount (approx. $60.00).  Thank you Lowe's.  I don't shop at Home Depot so no comment on them.  (GT)  5/11/21

A7:  No. Both still offer a 10% discount to veterans on all products. Home Depot requires you to show your ID. Lowe's uses your ID to put you in their system. You simply give the cashier your phone number to receive the discount.  (NF)  5/11/21

A8:  I was just in lowes and they still give the discount but home depot had stopped it except on holidays but I think they are now limiting the discount to certain items.  (JF)  5/11/21

A9:  Yes they have...just yesterday they refused me in a purchase in The Villages.  (BP)  5/11/21

A10:  The trend I see is Home Depot is restricted on what items they can give military discounts on by the specific manufacturer. I have found this to be happening at other retail sellers too.  (KC)  5/11/21

A11:   I use both stores frequently and have no problem receiving a 10% discount on all items. Lowes requires you to regster online and will verify your veteran status at checkout with the phone number you provided when you registered online. HD only requires you to provide a military ID or veteran paperwork to receive the discount. If items at either location are on sale or reduced at both locations you can verify the 10% discount prior to checking out by having an associate scan the item and if it comes up elligible for the discount you will received the discount. Good Luck.  (ME)  5/11/21

A12:  It has been in the VA / Gov pages for a few months now that many business were thinking of either completely removing or just altering their discounts for the Vets. Reason: is the heavy losses that business have faced during this Pandemic. Some businesses have even closed down because they couldn't survive. So in order to catch back up some have been mentioning this might happen.  Just like the "SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESS" campaigns being pushed by local municipalities and social networks.  (IG)  5/11/21

A13:  I checked with my Home Depot manager and he is not aware of any cutbacks....should be 10% discount on any and all purchases. This is in WA and ID and AZ. Next time, verify policy with the manager.  (RL)  5/11/21

A14:  For all the years I have shopped at Home Depot I always walked away feeling very grateful for the veteran discount I had received and all I was required to do was to show them my veteran card.  They are Amazing,  (DR)  5/11/21

A15:  Both continue to give the discount. Lowe's gives 10% on everything no matter how it's purchased, in-store, online for pick up, delivery, doesn't matter, 10% everything every time. I either scan the My Lowe's card or provide my phone number. Home Depot on the other hand has been inconsistent from store to store and visit to visit. Mostly I have found that only select items are discounted, and which items is not always known before the purchase is made. Also, depending on the person ringing up the purchase, you might not get the discount. On one visit to Home Depot, a purchase of about $40, I presented my ID after she started the checkout, and she said she would have to cancel the transaction and start again. I waited until everything was totaled, and walked away telling her would need to cancel it anyway. I haven't returned to that Home Depot.  (PS)  5/11/21

A16:  Home depot will not discount all items, Lowe's still gives 10 percent on all items and they have reserved parking for vets.  (LB)  5/11/21

A17:  I live in Gainesville, FL and both Home Depot and Lowe's honor military service with 10% discounts on everything. Lowe's offers military discount on online orders, HD does not.  (KL)  5/11/21

A18:  I was at Lowes yesterday and I received my military discount on everything I bought; paint, brushes, etc.  (CA)  5/11/21

A19:  I was at Lowe's yesterday and I had no problem getting my 10% Discount. You get automatic 5% discount if you have a Lowe's credit card . Pray for our troops!!????  (SF)  5/11/21

A20:   Since i joined Lowe's and Ace Hardware's Rewards programs, I get either a 10% discount (same as Veterans' discount) or Rewards Points on just about everything I buy there. I have noticed that since the pandemic put the hurt on a lot of businesses, they have cut back on "sale prices" and discounts. Have to wait and see is, as things recover, the sales and discounts come back.  (DJ)  5/11/21

A21:  The Home Depot stores in the Sebastian, Vero Beach, Florida areas, will only discount active duty.  (RB)  5/11/21

A22:   In Tyler Texas Home Depot scanned my medical ID from VA for a 10% discount on garden supplies. Lowe's in this area requires online registration, not in store. The website makes it hard to upload proof of documents.  (CM)  5/12/21

A23:  Yes bought insulation and a couple sheets of ply. Was told not eligible for discount. Home Depot.  (BG)  5/12/21

A24:  They used to give discounts on EVERYTHING but now both stores only discount NON SALE items. Bass Pro always gave me 10% on my purchase but now it's only 5%. The honeymoon is over.  (RW)  5/16/21
