Q700: Lately I’ve noticed that less and less companies are offering discounts to veterans or the discounts have been reduced. Is it me or are businesses slowly rolling back on veteran discounts?

A1: Academy here in Texas no longer offers a veterans discount. (AC) 4/27/21
A2: I live in a small town in Wisconsin and I haven't noticed any decrease in our immediate area, however in the bigger cities north and south of us there has decrease in what some places were offering and in some cases the elimination of any discount. (JD) 4/27/21
A3: Not just you. In the pandemic, times were tough for many businesses, large and small. Discounts were reduced or discontinued. Now that the business climate is improving, look for discounts to come back. But remember, many discounts are available only if you know to ask, so ask. If you don't ask, they can't say "yes". (DJ) 4/27/21
A4: New generations just don't know what we do to save lives and some lost their lives for them to have a future. (JC) 4/27/21
A5: Yes.. Hardley any. (ES) 4/27/21
A6: Lowes has a new corporate boss and he doesn't allow their 10% Veterans discount on sale prices anymore , just regular price merchandise. (DP) 4/27/21
A7: I haven't noticed a decrease. If anything, more places seem to offer something. Most do not advertise. Just politely ask and be prepared to show proof, such as a VA card, retired military card, veteran endorsement on your driver's license, etc. If they don't offer a discount, don't make a scene. They don't have to offer anything. Just say "thank you" and complete your transaction. I have seen spouses try to get a veteran discount when their veteran spouse is not with them. They have been turned down (rightfully). I have also been in line when a "veteran" made a scene for being politely turned down as he had nothing to show he was a veteran, other than wearing a ratty Army cap (which means nothing). When I got to the cashier, I showed my VA card and she gave me the discount and said "thank you for your service." I apologized for the behavior of the previous customer (who I didn't believe to be a veteran, and she said it was okay as she sees it a lot. Final word: Don't abuse the honor. Respect the business. Most lose their profit by giving you that discount. (JD) 4/27/21
A8: Yes I agree. (MM) 4/27/21
A9: When I enter a business before I make a purchase I will ask do you give veterans discounts, if the answer is NO than I will leave and go into another business. If all veterans would boycott those said business then they may change their business practices of not giving veterans discounts. (JL) 4/27/21
A10: I have noticed the same. I think...it coincides with the "new administration." (VHB) 4/27/21
