A1:  Contact you patient advocate at your VAMC ASAP.  (TB)  3/30/21

A2:  You have 3 days from accident to notify VA of accident.  In the past if you use another insurance VA would not pay.  But I believe that may have changed. Call local VA Hospital for all questions.  (BB)  3/30/21

A3:  A veteran must be eligible for reimbursement based on the standards set forth by VA. There are different rules that apply when considering if the emergency room care is for a service connected condition or a non-service connected condition.  It is important to contact the VA w/in 72 hours of the ER care. The veteran must file for reimbursement. If the emergency medical care was for a service-connected condition, a veteran has two years from the date the medical care was received to file a claim for reimbursement.  On the other hand, if the treatment was for a non-service-connected condition, a veteran only has 90 days from the date of discharge from the health care facility to file for reimbursement.  This website for Community Care has all the info you will need: https://www.va.gov/COMMUNITYCARE/programs/veterans/emergency_care.asp  (DS)  3/30/21
