Q670: We had burn pits in Vietnam, in 50 Hal. Drums cut in half for us to clean out from underneath the toilets. And burn our s***. Why are they not considering that [burn pits in Vietnam] as a claim for veterans that had extra duty to clean drums? I was one of those veterans, used diesel fluid or cold oils which caused me to have a lot of respiratory diseases.

A1: This was not highly public knowledge as the burns pits in the current conflict are. Have you ever filed a claim for this disability. If not I would advise you to do so, if you had and it has been denied I would file a 20-0995 Supplement Claim and kee p it going. (GR) 3/1/21
A2: I to had to do that also for peeing outside the club on base. was drunk and they pee every were so, well got caught and they made me do that also. (CF) 3/1/21
A3: I would recommend that you file a claim for service connection for whatever respiratory disease you have a dx for related to exposure to diesel fluid or cold oils. It would help if you get a nexus letter for your healthcare provider treating you for the respiratory diseases. You can help your doctor out by doing the research ahead of time relating your respiratory disease to exposure to the diesel fluid or cold oils. By you doing the research and siting studies showing the relationship, the doctors are more likely to write the nexus letter because you have already done the legwork for him/her. (DS) 3/1/21
A4: I am also concerned, I also burnt shit and half 50 gallon drums in Vietnam, would like more information on this type of claim thank you. (RM) 3/1/21
A5: Very true as most of us did take part in similar duries. The thick smoke, stench, and who knows what else went airborne. This is continually denied. (JR) 3/1/21
A6: I feel for you, brother. However, the answer to your question is that those fumes were not toxic. If anything, being affected to poop fumes is nothing like the fumes for the burning of all material, especially the toxics from plastic, rubber, chemical, etc. Today's warriors are coming back with a lot of respiratory and breathing conditions from the many chemicals from the burn pits. Sorry. (JL) 3/1/21
A7: We used JP-4 ( Helicopter Fuel ) Burned hotter and faster clean up of barrels. (DJ) 3/2/21
