A1:  Pension vs Compensation? It is 1 or the other.  My VSO told me that if I push for Pension (IF I qualify) my C&P compensation will go away, and Pension is usually lower than C&P.  (LC)  2/16/21

A2:  You cannot draw both. Without knowing the basis of your question I recommend you see the VSO who submitted your claim. If you do not have a VSO contact an Accredited VSO with the VFW, DAV, Am Vets, Am Legion or another Veterans Service Organization. They will explain the difference between pension and compensation. They will also advise you regarding your situation.  (GH)  2/16/21

A3:  NO you get either one or the other. VA Disability is usual higher. But you can only qualify for one or the other.  (AH)  2/22/21

A4:  You may qualify for VA's wartime pension and compensation at the same time, however, you will be paid by VA for the higher amount. To qualify for the pension, you have to have 90 days of continuous active duty with one of those days being during a period of war. You don't have to actually service "in" the war, just be on active duty during this time. The difference between the two is that the wartime pension is based on NON service connected disabilities. Some veterans that are only service connected at a low percentage may benefit from the wartime pension, especially when their health declines. Homebound and Aid and Attendance are more easily obtained. When you are qualified at the NSC A&A rate, any personal care you pay for can reduce your countable income and actually be reimbursed for those expenses up to the maximum allowed. Please contact an accredited service officer for assistance.  (DS)  2/26/21
