Q619:  I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and submitted a claim for it.  It was approved, but no additional 10% compensation as it was rolled into my existing claim and not giving me an additional 10% that I thought should be added. I'm rated 40% at this time and not 50% as I hoped. What does PTSD and tinnitus have to do with Type 2 diabetes?

A1:  VA math is not regular math! check their formula for determining additional disabilities add up. https://www.hillandponton.com/va-math-calculate-combined-disability-rating/  (PD)  12/25/20

A2:  PTSD and tinnitus have nothing to do with Type 2 diabetes. Some how your was submitted wrong. As a DAV Service Officer (and one that has received 20% for diabetic- 20+ years ago, 10% for Tinnitus, 2-years ago and 40% PTSD 4-years ago), it's my experience that the VA would of sent you to two sperate C&P exam for both PTSD and Tinnitus and along with your evidence for these two conditions, the VA would adjudicate your rating for PTSD and Tinnitus.

Tinnitus is usually rated at 10%. When the VA denied your claim for PTSD and Tinnitus, they should of informed you of the reasons why, the evidence they reviewed and what your next steps are. If I was you, I would contact a Service Officer at your local DAV Office and get them to assist you with the next steps. You can chat with me via my email address if you want.  (JL)  12/25/20

A3:   If/when you develop neuropathy with your diabetes you should be reevaluated. Sorry, I don't know about tinnitus or ptsd.  (LC)  12/25/20

A4:  Talk to a VA Benefit consular or a Disability American Veteran representative.  (AA)  12/25/20

A5:  The VA uses a different form of math to figure the disability. I would need need to know more information on your other disabilities and the ratings for those to determine what your new rating should be.  (GR)  12/26/20
