Q610: What qualifies a Veteran for SMC? Currently, I am a 100% home bound veteran.

A1: If you are 100% and home bound, you are qualify for SMC. I think you come under category (L). (MH) 12/20/20
A2: With home bound status that is special monthly compensation. You are receiving $300.00 over and above your 100% disability. (GR) 12/20/20
A3: To quote M21-1 "SMC. Special monthly compensation (SMC) is an additional level of compensation to Veterans (above the basic levels of compensation payable based on disability ratings of 0 to 100 percent) for various types of anatomical losses or levels of impairment due solely to service-connected (SC) disabilities." If you are being paid additional monies for "homebound" you are receiving a SMC. Aid and Attendance and erectile dysfunction are also examples of SMCs. SMCs allow the VA to pay you additional monies because the basic ratings sometimes fall short on compensating veterans. (DS) 12/21/20
