A1:  It is my suggestion that you talk to a local VSO or DAV representative. They have the references and will be able to answer your questions. I hope this suggestion helps you.  (RC)  12/18/20

A2:   I have not seen were the VA will pay transportation expense to have a veteran's remains shipped anywhere. I have done two claims for that and the VA denied both. Maybe someone else has and if so hope they will share it with both of us.  (GR)  12/18/20

A3:  For a service related death, If the Veteran is buried in a VA national cemetery, some or all of the cost of transporting the deceased may be reimbursed. Whether or not the VA would pay from California to New York is highly unlikely. At any rate, file the claim on a VA Form 21P-530 and let the VA decide. I never tell anyone "no" on something like this because the VA laws change like underwear.  (DS)  12/18/20

A4:  The VA will pay any expense incurred for the handling of the deceased, including travel from the funeral home location to the burial site if the family paid for such service and has receipts for the expends.  (JL)  12/18/20
