Q603: I'm 100% unemployable through VA. I want to know how do I go about getting approved for my SSI? I have applied 3 times and denied. I really don't understand their process and decision making.
If you have a question about benefits, compensation, pension or VA related issues please submit here.
Use Form Below To Respond
A1: You get paid too much from VA to qualify for Supplemental Security Income(SSI). It's kinda like welfare, for people who can't qualify for SSDI. You probably could receive Social Security Disability Income (SSDI), if you have enough qualifying quarters, before you became disabled. (RH) 12/8/20
A2: Go to your local DAV, VFW or American Legion and work through their Service Offricer. They know the ins and outs of VA. (EA) 12/8/20
A3: After three times of denial check in the yellow pages of a phone book for Attorneys or on line in your area and get one who does not get paid unless they win for you. It is a process much like the VA as for time line. Unless SSI has changed their process it takes two years for a hearing and have the attorney you hire make sure your effective date is the first time you filed. (GR) 12/8/20
A4: First off, why SSI and not SSD. SSI is for limited income. Second, unless you are over 50 years of age, you will need an attorney that helps Veterans Pro Bono is at all possible. Only they have the right wording, touch, or pull to get you SSD and or maybe SSI. Doing it by yourself, I am sorry to say, will drive you to the Looney Farm. Don't do it alone. I have tried, very discouraging and disappointing. Make sure your cause is solid and viable or you will not qualify. Do your Due Diligence and find an Attorney to help you. Good Luck, Semper FI my friend. (ES) 12/8/20
