Q591:  I am an 82-year old Navy vet. I have Medicare with parts "A", "B", and "D" with medigap insurance from AARP. My medical care is provided by the VA. Question: Why are my prescriptions required a co-pay for drugs sent from the VA in Richmond? I'm paying for Part "D" out of pocket + paying a co-pay with the VA. How come?

A1:  Well I was told if your under I think 50% they make you pay a copayment I was 70 percent and they tried take 20% away so I would have to pay but if your over that you shouldn't be paying a co payment with the VA I don't.  (CF)  12/1/20

A2:  In order not to have a copay at the VA you need to have a disability rating of 50%.  (GR)  12/1/20

A3:  Of ALL the 5 that you mentioned, whichever one of the 5 pays the MOST Money on your prescription drugs I would Keep. I know that you would not drop Plan "A" or Plan "B" of Medicare but Plan "D" and Medigap from AARP I would drop. You're throwing money to the wind with those two plans. I don't know what your VA rating is, but you might try to raise it up to at least 50% and there would be NO CO-PAY after that. I would work strictly with VA and to get the disability raised up to 50% or more, but of course, keep your Medicare Plan "A" and "B".  Good Luck BUT be Persistent!  (RA)  12/2/20
