Q527: I am an Army veteran who used to work at the VA about 10 years ago. I am 50% service –connected for my back and spine. I resigned my position with the VA because they would not make arrangements in my workcenter to accommodate my service-connected conditions. For instance, I need physical therapy twice a week. My supervisor said I had to use my sick leave to take physical therapy and when my sick leave ran out I would not get paid on the days I went to physical therapy. I can’t sit for very long without severe back pain and I cannot stand either. I asked my supervisor if I would be allowed to stretch throughout the day, he said NO. I asked my supervisor if I could purchase a therapeutic chair for my office, and my supervisor said NO. There were many more NO’s from my supervisor at the time. I learned recently my old supervisor retired. Is there any way I can get my old job back at the VA?

A1: First, you should have filed an Americans With Disability Act claim against your employer.
Another avenue would have been to go to the VA Union rep to ask for help.
Since you did neither, my only advice would be to APPLY FOR THE JOB and see where the chips land. (RJ) 10/7/20
