Q497:  A while ago one of the military blogs I belong to issued a statement that the spouse of a veteran rated at more than 30% could get their prescriptions at the VA. I wonder if this is true and if so how does one go about arranging this? I’m 70% disabled.

A1:   I don't know the percentage before your wife is eligible for ChampVA where all prescription costs outside the VA is covered. She would get a card to have her pharmacy record and from then on when a prescribed medication is put in only has to pick it up. Not sure if it ChampVA covers what is left if you have outside medical insurance as well for then they may charge your outside first but then ChampVA second. Look into it thru Veterans Affairs or Eligibility Office and if the answer you get does not come to your liking write your congressman and/or see a VSO Office. Best of Luck.  (JRM)  8/6/20

A2:  Unfortunately, this is not true.  (RJ)  8/6/20

A3:  I'm 30% so I questioned the VA on this myself. They responded that it was not true. Wouldn't hurt to ask somebody else to see if you get the same answer. Does seem to be too good to be true.  (JJ)  8/6/20

A4:   I have not heard of that. If it is true I would like to know. I am a 100% disabled vet.  (JMA)  8/6/20

A5:  You need to contact an Accredited VSO from the VFW, Am Legion, DAV, Am Vets or another Veterans Service Organization. They will explain all benefits and clarify misinformation. Do not listen to the Stockade Lawyers on some of those blogs. But no your spouse can not get her prescriptions at the VA.  (GH)  8/6/20

A6:  Not really. If you're rated 100% (either IU or P&T), your spouse qualifies for CHAMPVA; thereby qualifying for prescriptions.  (TB)  8/6/20
