Q465:  My Uncle recently passed while living in a VA home. He was a Korean War veteran and the sole source of money for my Aunt. My Aunt is being told she does not qualify for any pension. Does she qualify for any type of VA pension?

A1:  Please check to see if his death was tied to and disability service connected that he was receiving if so she would be eligible for compensation in for of a check each month.  (GM)  7/14/20

    

A2:  Pension is based upon war time (era) service and financial hardship. The pension rates and qualifying finances are found here.

A3:  My understanding is if you served during the Korean War. They are entitled the VA Pension as long as their not receiving Social Security or do not have any income & married at least 10 yrs. The surving spouse are entitled the VA Pension. Go to the VA.Gov & search for DIC Surviving Benifits. You need to see DAV, VFW or American Legion ask for assistance to file your claim.  (RR)  7/14/20
