Q455: While in the Navy I hurt my back in 1994 while TAD while at Shemya AFB. When I was sent back to Anchorage where I was stationed at the Hospital, all they did was send me to PT. While getting out in 1995 TPC people did not know what to do with me because of my rate (CTR1). For 18 years I put up with empdurole shots in my back. Then one day I was sent to a doctor in Chesapeake and he looked at two MRIs I had done. It showed my L4 and L5 were NOT in alignment at all. Told me surgery would be in two days. He fused my L4, L5 back inline. I still have problems with my lower back. Some days very hard to bend over and sometimes very hard to get up when on my knee's. I feel the Navy chief at Anchorage Hospital failed me. Should I have had MRI there and fixed before I got out of the military? I probably would not be bad off as I am now. Even had open heart surgery last year, June 2019 when the military doctors knew about it in 2015 at Portsmouth Hospital.

A1: I suggest you see an accredited VSO with the DAV, VFW, AmLegion, AmVets or another Service Organization. Take your discharge (DD-214) and file a claim. Take your Military Health Records and your private health records to the VSO. They will assist you. Not knowing all I still would ask. Why have you not filed before? (GH) 7/8/20
