Q264:  I did 20 years without a break in service.  Why does my DD Form 214 only show 16 years of service?  I should be getting retirement of 20 years, not 16. Please advise.

A1:  The reason should be shown on the summary of time served. Previous active service should show as 4 years. The date of entry shown will be 16 years previous and the total length of time will be 20. The line that says Recent Service is the 16 years. It sounds confusing and is. but without seeing the DD214 it's difficult to actually figure it out.  (CP)  10/11/19
