Q245: I am retired USAF. I was in Vietnam 1967 - 1968. Since returning from Vietnam I have become diabetic, I have had cancer twice, I have chronic back problems and neuropathy. I have also had several skin cancers. I presently have a 60% disability rating. The VA has never evaluated my cancer problems or my neuropathy. How do I get them to do so?

A1: To online and fill out the new claim forms of go to a DR A office and speak to VSO . They will help you with your new claims. You need to talk to your doctor and get a statement as to when it started and to what degree. (Do th take pills or shots). Amount of disability depends on treatment. A2: File claims for them. You should also request an increase in any other disability that has worsened. (RH) 9/15/19
A3: #1. Did the VA diagnose and treat you for your Cancer. What type of cancer was it , then check and see if it was one that the VA covers?
They put out list's and easy to look up. #2. Have you been treated for your Neuropathy at the VA? Talk to your team doctor and request your visitation records every time you go to the Doctor or see any specialist. Keep your own records for future proof and easy access. #3. Have you been treated for Diabetes at the VA? If not, take your records with you and give them a copy to your team Doctor. See your local Veteran Service Officer that has been appointed by the American Legion. Talk to your local VSO and see if he can help you apply for future compensation for your disabilities. A5: Go see your VSO,he or she could help you in what direction to take. (MH) 9/15/19
A6: Gather all of your medical records. Request additional medical records from all of your current doctors. Make sure that you write a statement ,explaining that you need a copy of your medical records for evaluation for the VA. If the doctors will not comply, you can request that VA to request and obtain the records. Very important to make a copy of any paperwork that you plan to submit. Request a current complete health exam eval . The VA will let you know what to do next. If you have a good VSO , keep them in the loop for addtional assistance. Good luck! (TP) 9/15/19
A7: Go to your accredited VSO and file a claim for neuropathy secondary to DMII. I do not know what type of cancer you have. Your VSO can advice you. You must remember you must file. Claims are not done automatically. (GH) 9/15/19
