Q164:  Why has not the VA informed veterans that sleep apnea is secondary to PTSD? I applied for sleep apnea several years ago and was denied and what are the range of percentages for having sleep apnea?

A1:   I was diagnosed with PTSD while I was still in the Active Duty Army. Now that I am discharged I receive my compensation through the VA. The VA Psych requested a Sleep Apnea test and it was confirmed that I have Sleep Apnea and I was provided with CPAP Machine. Although I have Sleep Apnea the VA doesn't give me a monetary compensation because I've been diagnosed after military service. It must be documented while you are still in the service in order to receive a monetary compensation.  (IA)  10/24/18
