Q151:  My wife was approved for CHAMPVA.  Is there anyone who can help advising how to collect her co-pays for the last 9 years? Forms are confusing and when she calls the 800-827-1000 (VA) everyone has a different answer.

A2:  First of all did your claim for benefits go back 9 yrs? I just became eligible for CHAMP this year. My husband's claim went back 7 mo. from the date it was approved. So I could go back that far for reimbursement of any medical and medications I used during that time. I read my CHAMP VA book cover to cover it was very helpful. What I next was wen to the clinic, pharmacy and hospital I used between that period of time. I called each and gave them the dates I needed filed and asked if they would file the claims for me. Just as they would do for Medicare etc. They were happy to do it. I kept a notebook of anyone I talked to and what they said and did for me. I've already received 2 checks from CHAMP. If this doesn't help make an appointment with our local CVSO that helped file your. Maybe she can help with your wife's. It seemed overwhelming at first but it really isn't that bad. Hope some of this is helpful.  (DE)  10/5/18
