Q136: My fiance of 13 years passed away. I been the only person to take care of him and been there from day one. He has nothing to do with his family and I never met them. So, I'm wondering if I get any of his benefits? Thank you for your time and God bless.

A1: Unfortunately, the VA does not recognize unmarried partners for benefits, unless you possibly live in a state that recognizes common law marriages. I would seek assistance from your nearest DAV service officer. (AP) 9/22/18
