Q132: Omg! I'm an angry and frustrated spouse of a veteran. We go through the same crap if not more than the veteran day in and day out. Spouses that manage to stick around get noooo help from the VA. None! What is there for those of us who go through this crap with their sick and damaged spouses? Help from a wife of 24 years and a Vietnam veteran who served 2 years in Vietnam. We’ve been turned down for benefits for over a decade and no one will give me any help to deal with my depression and anger. This is bull****! My question is, why is there nothing for the spouses that has to go through the PTSD, gout, pain, sleep apnea, and nightmares?
If you have a question about benefits, compensation, pension or VA related issues please submit here.
Use Form Below To Respond
A1: To be short and blunt, talk to congress. They write the rules. Otherwise, you should look into other county or state agencies for assistance. (RJ) 9/17/18
A2: That is an easy answer. You did not earn it. Can you figure that one out? (SS) 9/17/18
A3: Go to DAV For Help. (LK) 9/17/18
A4: Legislation is working its way through Congress to expand caregiver compensation to all wounded warriors, not just post-9/11. In some States and Counties, mental health counselling is available to both PTSD sufferers and their immediate family members/caregivers. Talk to your local County Veterans Service Officer, Mental/Behavioral Health Agency, or Vet Center to see what is available. (DJ) 9/17/18
A5: I agree, the government should take care of all Veteran wives. I think that now is the time to take issue with this because President Trump loves and wants to take care of us. He just needs to hear "it" about all the Veteran Wives... Why not start a "Veteran Wives" organization and then get to the White House... It is worth a try and also Veteran Wives sending letters to President Trumps wife would be a help. She has the direct connection to get something to the president. But, flooding Trumps office with countless letters about the Veteran Wives needing VA help too, might get something started. It is worth a try...(CS) 9/17/18
A6: Try calling the caregiver hotline. This is specifically for spouses of disabled vets who are their caregivers. (AP) 9/22/18
A7: Honestly, I am not sure. I agree with you. My husband is 100% disabled and a 22 yr Army veteran. It sucks because I am the care giver with NO supports because he is a Gulf War veteran. The disability that they caused has affected my entire life also and will be the cause of his premature demise. Be g a care giver I am too busy with my added responsibilities to even explore it. Answer A5, I agree, and A6 the network is worthless. Lastly, A2's answer is rude and sarcastic and should show more understanding to the spouse of a veteran. (RM) 6/9/21
