Veteran Shot At VAMC

One person was in custody after a shooting at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital in Fayetteville, North Carolina, according to police reports.
On Friday, February 7, 2020, at approximately 2:34 p.m., a woman, dressed in semi-camouflaged attire, and toting a pistol, walked into the lobby of the Fayetteville VAMC and shot a veteran at point blank range.
For reasons unknown, the veteran was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, rather than being treated at the Fayetteville VAMC. The veteran was being treated for a gunshot wound to the chest, and appears to be in stable condition according to police reports.
Onsite VA police quickly detained the woman for questioning. At this time there is no known motive for the shooting.
The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) reports the two did not know each other and the shooting would appear to be an arbitrary encounter.
The FBI reports no other veterans, or VA staff members were nearby when the shooting occurred, and no one in the VAMC was harmed by this random act of violence.
