Library Hosts Ongoing Workshop

      

The Santa Barbara Public Library (SBPL) has opened Brainfuse JobNow/VetNow as part of its Vets Connect @ the Library resources. The online service supports job seekers, veterans, and their families with all stages of job searching, employment transition assistance, navigating the VA, preparing for standardized tests, and building marketable academic skills.

   

JobNow/VetNow includes the following features:

  • Live Online Navigators trained to help veterans and families connect with benefits and resources, answer questions related to benefits eligibility, and refer patrons to applicable community resources for housing, healthcare, and education benefits.
  • Job tools designed to help with all stages of the job-hunting process, including career coaching, expert resume and cover letter templates and assistance, and live interview preparation.
  • Learning tools to build academic skills and prepare for college, including a library of lessons, video tutorials, and practice tests covering GED, SAT, ACT, TEAS, HESI, GRE and GMAT.

The Little Rock VA Regional Office will hold a Virtual Claims Clinic for Arkansas veterans On June 24, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. During the Virtual Claims Clinic, veterans may speak to VA representatives who are ready to assist with specific questions regarding VA benefits claims. To schedule a timeslot, veterans are asked to call 501-370-3829 between June 9 – 23, 2021 between the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

JFCS of the Suncoast is hosting Stand Down, a benefit for homeless veterans, on June 26, 2021 from 8:00 a.m. to noon at the Sarasota County Fairgrounds, 3000 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34237.  This year’s community partners are All Faiths Food Bank, American Red Cross, CareerSource Suncoast, City of Sarasota, Coastal Behavioral Healthcare, Coke Florida, First Step of Sarasota, Florida Department of Veteran Affairs, Florida Veterans for Common Sense, Goodwill Manasota, Harvest House, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) Military Dental, Legal Aid of Manasota, Operation ECO Vets, Sarasota County Government, Sarasota Elks #2495, Infinite Heroes, Sarasota Police Department, Sarasota County Sherriff’s Department, Sarasota Veterans Commission, Sports Clips, Suncoast Partnership to End Homelessness, The Salvation Army of Sarasota County, Sarasota Health Department, The Street Dog Coalition (Bay Road Animal Hospital), Turning Points, VOA, Florida Department of Motor Vehicles, VA Partners and Veteran Amnesty Court, Circuit 12.  To participate in Stand Down, veterans must bring either a Veteran ID Card that contains their veteran status, VA assigned ID or DD Form 214 with ID.  Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) and Manatee County Area Transit (MCAT) are providing free transportation for veterans with a valid ID.  For more information call 941-366-2224.

         

   

  

  

  

  

  

  

  

   

Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County Texas is having a Veterans Home Fair this coming weekend at Honor Café in Conroe, Texas to help those who served in the military and their families learn more about affordable housing and home repairs offered by the organization.  At the event participants will learn more about Habitat’s housing programs and receive direct application assistance from staff and trained volunteers. If anyone is unable to attend the event both homeowner and home repair applications are available online.  For more details information click here.

Attention veterans!  Find out if you or your spouse qualifies for a higher level of pension or VA disability compensation during a free online seminar on Veterans Benefits hosted by Heritage Hill Senior Community on June 29, 2021 at noon via Zoom.  Christine LeClair, the Carbon County director of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), will discuss many VA benefits including “Aid and Attendance,” a pension benefit that can help defray senior care costs and is different from the VA’s disability compensation benefit.  Lunch is included, courtesy of Heritage Hill. Pick up your free box lunch at 800 Sixth St., Weatherly, on the day of the event between 9:30-11:30 a.m.  RSVP by June 25, 2021.
